Tennessee cornerback Brent Vinson was issued five citations after being pulled over for speeding on October 29 including citations for marijuana possession, violation of the state’s open container law, driving without a license or insurance and speeding. The five citations have added up to a one-game suspension for the 21-year-old sophomore.

Golfer John Daly referred to his recent overnight stay in jail to sober up as an “unfortunate incident” and while he insists that he takes full responsibility for his helpless state of intoxication outside a Winston-Salem Hooter’s, he also insists that “it wasn’t that big of deal.” Daly said the entire incident could have been avoided if only has friends had realized he tends to sleep with his eyes open when he’s tired, stressed and has consumed enough alcohol to kill a horse.
Prominent sports agent and Jerry Maguire inspiration Leigh Steinberg was arrested on suspicion of being drunk in public after police witnessed the 59-year-old Steinberg “screaming and attempting to climb a hill” behind the Newport Auto Center, in Newport Beach California. Steinberg, who has acknowledged a battle with alcoholism, was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence in Newport Beach in 1997 and 2007.
Former state Representative John Widowfield (R) was fined $2,000 after pleading guilty to two first degree misdemeanor charges - filing a false financial disclosure statement and converting campaign funds into personal use. The charges stemmed from Widowfield’s use of campaign money to purchase Ohio State football tickets which he later sold for a personal profit. Though both charges carried a possible six-month sentence, Widowfield will not serve any jail time.
Fifteen North Texas football players have failed drug testing conducted at the request of head football coach Todd Dodge. Eighty-six players were tested between September 24 and October 15. The players were chosen by the coaching staff and were considered to be regular contributors to the team. While Dodge refused to specify the particular drugs detected, he did classify them as generally “street drugs.” It is not clear whether the number of stoned football players was the cause or result of the teams’ 0-8 start, the worst in school history.
Golfer John Daly was taken in custody by Winston-Salem police on Sunday morning after he was found drunk outside an area Hooters restaurant. The officers were called to the restaurant on a medical call and arrived to find Daly receiving treatment by emergency workers after having lost consciousness.
Virginia Cavaliers starting fullback RaShawn Jackson has been arrested and faces felony charges in connection with a 2007 campus burglary. University police reported on Wednesday that Jackson faces one count of breaking and entering and one count of grand larceny in connection with a dormitory break in last November.
Julio Castillo, the 21-year-old Peoria Chiefs pitcher that hurled a ball at a Dayton Dragons player during the team’s massive bench-clearing brawl in Dayton, has been charged with two counts of felonious assault. The misguided attempt to bean a Dragon sailed into the stands and instead struck a fan who was later treated for a concussion at a local hospital and released.
