Virginia Tech wide receiver Ike Whitaker has been indefinitely suspended from the Hokies football team following his arrest for attempting to start a fight outside a Blacksburg bar on Thursday which lead to charges of public intoxication and public swearing. A preliminary breathalyzer test revealed an incredibly high blood alcohol level of 0.33.
Whitaker had previously been arrested for underage possession of alcohol, destruction of property and public intoxication in 2006 and missed the 2006 Chick-fil-A Bowl to due to his enrollment in an alcohol rehab program. Whitaker was already serving a another suspension for violating team rules, and according to the Washington Post, has been instructed by head coach Frank Beamer to spend his last season of eligibility elsewhere.
