Federal investigators are accusing a nonprofit run by mayoral candidate and former NBA star Kevin Johnson of using AmeriCorps grants to pay volunteers to engage in school-board political activities, run personal errands for Johnson and even wash Johnson’s car.

Johnson said during a campaign event on Friday that voters can “rest assured, I will fight this tooth and nail,” before driving away in the shiniest Escalade Dark Side has ever seen.

But at the end of the day, if AmeriCorps grants aren’t for cleaning Kevin Johnson’s car, what the hell are they for?
