Virginia QB violates alcohol probation
Virginia starting quarterback Peter Lalich, who has been serving a one-year probation since being arrested for underage possession of alcohol in July, is being charged for violating the terms of that probation after admitting to court officials that he has used alcohol and marijuana since the start of his probationary period. While it’s not clear whether Lalich was high during the Virginia game against USC last weekend, it would certainly help explain the Trojan’s 52-7 beatdown of the Cavaliers.

Arizona starting WR suspended following DUI arrest
Arizona Wildcats starting wide receiver Terrell Reese has been indefinitely suspended following his arrest for and charge of driving while intoxicated on Friday night. Reese had already been serving a suspension for missing classes.

Warriors’ Ellis telling $66 million fibs
The Golden State Warriors have confirmed that shooting guard Monta Ellis’s torn deltoid ligament and high ankle sprain, which required surgery, were not the result of an off-season pickup game as Ellis claimed, but of and unidentified “outdoor” activity. Ellis signed a six-year $66 million contract extension in July which could be in jeopardy if his outdoor activity was in violation of his new contract.

Olympic Cyclists demand apology from USOC for mask criticism
The four American Olympic cyclists who were ordered to apologize by the United States Olympic Committee after arriving in Beijing wearing pollution masks last month, have sent a letter to the USOC, by way of their attorney, demanding that the USOC do the same. The cyclists, who were given the masks by the USOC, claimed the “emotionally devastating” flap contributed to the cyclists’ failure to medal while in Beijing. The USOC has not responded.
