The International Olympic Committee is investigating the Belarus silver and bronze medalists in the men’s hammer throw for doping offenses after samples provided by both men on the final day of competition tested positive for traces of testosterone.
31-year-old silver medalist Vadim Davyatovskiy, who served a two-year drug suspension from 2000-02, faces the possibility of a lifetime ban. 32-year-old Bronze medalist Ivan Tsikhan faces a two-year ban for his first offense.
The IOC’s disciplinary commission will meet at the end of the month to hear the cases.
This is the second Olympic hammer throw competition in a row to be plagued by doping scandal. Four years ago in Athens, Hungary’s Adrian Annus was stripped of his gold medal for doping. Annus’ gold medal was given to second-place finisher Koji Murofushi of Japan. Murofoushi stands to inherit the bronze from Tsikhan if both Belarusians are stripped of their medals after the IOC hearing.
This leads Dark Side to the only logical conclusion - when people do drugs, Koji Murofushi of Japan wins. How do you live with yourself Koji Murofushi?
