Members of the Penn State football program have found their way into legal trouble again after police discovered marijuana in the home of Penn State football players AJ Wallace, Andrew Quarless, Maurice Evans and Abe Koroma.

After receiving news of the incident, head football coach Joe Paterno suspended all but Wallace, who Paterno says was not involved. Paterno also dismissed defensive back Willie Harriott for an undisclosed and unrelated violation of team rules.

Police were initially responding to a report of loud music coming from the apartment shortly after 8 pm on Tuesday evening when they noticed an strong smell of marijuana permeating from the apartment and asked to enter and search the residence.

The players were smart enough to know they could decline the police officers’ request, but dumb enough to think they could shut the door and that whole police-wanting- to-search-the-apartment thing would be all taken care of. Or perhaps they simply forgot about the search request once Sponge Bob came back on. Either way, when the police returned with a search warrant three hours later, a quick search of the apartment turned up the source of the marijuana odor, which was of course marijuana.

Of the four players listed as current residents, only Quarless and Wallace, along with a handful of guests, were listed on the warrant as being present at the time of the search. Penn State police, who have to be at least a little pissed after having to go through the trouble of getting a warrant to break up the party, expect to file drug charges soon. A police spokesman could not specifically identify who might be charged, however, as police are still trying to determine who was in possession of the recovered marijuana. A little tip for the Penn State police - if one of the guys was wearing a Phish T-shirt, that’s your man.

Joe Paterno announced the suspension of Evans, Koroma and Quarless for this weekend’s game against Oregon State on his weekly radio show Thursday night. Paterno announced he was the President of Sudan while arguing with a table lamp in his home on Thursday morning.

Evans, a first-team Big Ten selection, starts at defensive end for the Nittany Lions. Koroma is the starting defensive tackle. Quarless, who was suspended for spring practice following a DUI arrest, is a reserve tight end.

Paterno also announced the dismissal of defensive back Willie Harriot from the team on Thursday for an undisclosed and unrelated violation of team rules. Harriot was arrested in November for driving under the influence of alcohol and speeding.
