University of Texas starting defensive tackle Lamarr Houston was arrested and charged with drunken driving after an early morning traffic accident occuring just hours after the Longhorns’ win over Florida Atlantic.
Houston, 21, was driving one of the cars involved in a two-car accident occurring at 3:15 am. The accident did not result in any injuries. Houston was taken to the Travis County Jail and charged with driving while intoxicated, a misdemeanor punishable by up to 180 days in jail.
Houston’s arrest brings the Longhorn football team’s grand total to seven since 2006 including two DUI’s during the 2007 season.
Head Coach Mack Brown expressed his disappointment with Houston and assured reporters that “following the completion of the legal process, we will do what’s best for the university, Lamarr and the team.”
Brown also emphasized what he considers to be the “family approach” of the Texas football program. “One thing we have really prided ourselves on in our program is our family atmosphere, and this will be handled within our family.”
Dark Side couldn’t agree more about the Longhorns being like a family. Unfortunately, it’s looking more and more like John Daily’s family.
