Ohio State defensive tackle Doug Worthington was arrested and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol on July 26 after being pulled over for speeding directly in front of Ohio Stadium.
The incident left the projected starter’s status with the team in doubt. Head coach Jim Tressel eliminated any doubts about Worthington’s status with the team as well as any doubts about Tressel’s uncompromising disciplinary style on Tuesday when he announced Worthington’s punishment.
Doug Worthington will not start for the #2 rated Buckeyes against in-state cupcake Youngstown State on Saturday. Sure, he’ll play. But he wont be the first one to play. Feel the wrath of Tressel.
Repeating his favorite “car keys” metaphor for playing that was endearing in a sort of Ward Cleaver way the first time he used it, but is now just starting to get annoying, Tressel explained his Draconian tactics to reporters.
“As far as Worthington goes, Doug will be suited up and ready to go. Exactly when he’ll get his car keys back, I don’t know that answer at this moment. But it won’t be at the beginning.”
Grandpa Tressel may not when he’s going to give little Dougy back his car keys, but Dark Side’s willing to be it’s before the court does.
