NASCAR handed drivers Kyle Busch and Carl Edwards a six-race probation on Wednesday for their on-track incident at the end of the Saturday night race at Bristol Motor Speedway in Charlotte, N.C.

The road-fracas began between the rivals when Edwards nudged Busch aside with 30 laps to go in the race. Busch had led the race for the previous 415 laps.

After Edwards took the checkered flag, Busch pulled up alongside Edwards during the cool down lap and gave him an acknowledgment bump. Edwards responded by driving the nose of his car into the right side of Busch’s Toyota, spinning Busch out.

The paint-swapping on Saturday is the latest incident in a growing rivalry between the two drivers who are the winningnest active drivers in the Sprint Cup Series. Both racers met with NASCAR officials after the race and appear to be mutually apologetic and ready to bury the hatchet.

“I feel like I was extremely justified to do what I did,” Edwards said after the meeting. “I needed to do it, and that’s the way it went. Let’s make it real clear, I’m not apologizing for it, and that’s it.”

Extending his own olive branch, Busch added that “We’ll go on and we’ll race him that way in the Chase if that’s the way he wants to race.”

Dark Side has seen this kind of NASCAR feuding before and thinks these guys just need to rent a couple of Ford Tauruses (or is it Tauri?) and bash the hell out of each other so they can put the bad blood behind them.

What? It worked for that crazy ass Cole Trickle guy who beat up Oprah.
