Virginia basketball coach Dave Leitao announced the dismissal of senior center Laurynas Mikalauskas on Monday in a two-sentence statement:

“There are standards to be a member of this basketball program and Laurynas has not lived up to those standards. I will have no additional comment on the situation.”                                                                                                                                          

Mikalauskas, a fan favorite known as “The Pride of Lithuania” has been spending the summer break in his native country and was unavailable for comment.

Lithuanian officials have not stated whether Mikalauskas’ dismissal will result in the loss of his “Pride of Lithuania” title, but rumors that Lithuanian descendant Monica Lewisnky has already begun her campaign to be Mikalauskas’ successor have begun to surface.
