Michigan RB Kevin Grady has pleaded guilty to a drunk driving charge stemming from his July 2 arrest where police measured his blood-alcohol level at an incredible 0.281 percent, about 3½ times the state’s legal limit.

Grady had initially pleaded not guilty on July 9, but altered his legal strategy after retaining a lawyer and learning that his being unable to recall driving drunk, being arrested or pretty much anything that happened after his 43rd shot of vodka that evening was not a valid defense to drunken driving.

Grady will either spend three days in jail or perform 24 hours of community service in addition to serving 12 months of probation and paying $3,290 in fines and legal fees.

Grady has been indefinitely suspended from playing, but not practicing with the team.

Update: Thanks to a reader for providing this helpful link to a chart breaking down the meaning of a 0.281 blood-alcohol level. Apparently 0.28 typically results in severe motor impairment, loss of consciousness and memory blackouts. A level of 0.30 brings impairment of bladder function, heart rate and breathing as well as the possibility of death.

Update: After doing a little searching this morning Dark Side found this mug shot of Grady from the night of the arrest.
