The Oklahoma Sooners have dismissed heralded freshman wide receiver Josh Jarboe from the team after the release of his debut rap single “Meat up on your Grill.”
Jarboe, ranked 13th on ESPN’s list of top high school players last season, was sentenced in May to two years probation and 80 hours of community service for bringing a gun to his Decatur, Georgia high school. Jarboe was initially charged with a felony, but the charge was later reduced to a misdemeanor.
Jarboe found himself in hot water again earlier this week, however, when a 74-second Jarboe-rap was posted earlier this week on Youtube. The rap features references to killing, guns and Jarboe’s girlfriend, Sonja, who Jarboe feels is a dead ringer for Jennifer Lopez.
Dark Side hasn’t actually seen Jarboe play football, but we have watched the Youtube video about seventeen times and we’re going to go ahead and assume Jarboe is a better football player than a rapper and needs to find a way back onto a football field immediately, because the rap thing isn’t going to start paying out anytime soon. Dark Side must admit, however, that as far a rapping athletes go, he’s not that bad. And compared to Kobe Bryant, this guy is the next Jay-Z. For those confused by that statement, we recommend you find a copy of Bryant’s rap album K.O.B.E., listen to it and then burn it. The listening step is optional.
Stoops decision to dismiss Jarboe came after meeting with Jarboe on Friday morning. “We outlined the expectations we had for him when we arrived and unfortunately, those expectations have not been met,” Said Stoops. Releasing retarded home-videos of yourself rapping in your neighbor’s basement was apparently not included in Oklahoma’s expectations. In fairness to Jarboe, the departing of wide receiver Malcolm Kelly to the NFL did leave a crappy-rapping void to be filled.
