Former Tulane University football player Ray Boudreaux Jr., who was convicted last month of three counts of attempted manslaughter and one count of aggravated battery for his role in a brawl outside a Bourbon Street nightclub, was sentenced on Friday to 10 years in prison.
The September 2007 brawl took place just before 6 a.m. on a Sunday in front of the Utopia nightclub after two groups of people were ejected from the club for fighting. The fight spilled out into the street, where a surveillance video camera recorded images of Boudreaux pulling out a knife and stabbing the five people in the opposing group. One of the men, who was stabbed in the neck and chest, suffered brain damage as a result. Boudreaux, who was suspended from the team following his arrest, claimed he was trying to protect himself.
